Contests
Two competitions have been planned at the Milky Way Voyage. First is the Best 'Astro-Photo Competition', & second is the 'Telescope Showcase'.
Astrophoto Competition,
Rules & Regulations:1. Images submitted must be suitable under the heading of ‘Astrophotography or Night Sky Photography or Space Photography’. A possible exclusion would be bright red evening clouds over an observatory dome, noctilucent clouds would be included! Submissions must feature the beauty of celestial objects, and show technical merit.
2. Images entered must be submitted by a registered participant in the Milky Way Voyage.
3. Images can be taken with any kind of imaging technique or medium (film, digital, CCD, drawing), telescope or mount.
4. One or more participants may contribute to & submit one image.
5. Any number of images may be submitted by a person or team.
6. Any digital image format may be used. Image(s) can be submitted in a Print, CD, Pen drive etc. (ensure digital media are virus free, else your submission will be rejected)
7. Title and describe the image suitably. Submission must include time, date and location of photograph, duration & number of sub exposures, full details of processing done, Camera used, Telescope or lens used. Include name(s) of photographer(s), astronomy association affiliation (or none). Include a description of the target and methods and equipment used to acquire the image.
8. Images can be submitted via email to at@vsnl.com or in person at Nainital. Images can be submitted till 1700 Hrs, 7th March.
9. Contestants must be very careful about processing their digital images. Any false colour introduction, misleading collage, mosaics, falsely increasing/decreasing the size of objects will be viewed seriously and the submission rejected. A clarification- this does not mean that collages and mosaics are not allowed.
10. Prizes will be announced and awarded at Milky Way Voyage.
11. Copyrights to the image will remain with the photographer; Milky Way Voyage will have the rights to use the photograph on their website and promotional material.
12. These rules are subject to change as we discover our inadvertent errors and omissions or other unforeseen events occur.
Telescope Showcase:
Telescope showcase will be held in the evening (before astronomical twilight) of 8th March. All participants who have
a. made their own telescope,
b. home brewed their own mount,
c. constructed an innovation to be used with a telescope,
d. built a gadget to be used with a telescope or astronomical activity,
can enter the telescope showcase. All entries will be lined up on the west & south side of the 40" building on the telescope grounds. Participants will get 10-12 minutes to personally explain their home built creation to the judges. The telescope (or innovation) has to be physically present to be eligible for the contest. Photographs or charts, or an unfinished idea will certainly be encouraged, but will not be eligible to participate in the showcase.
